Ep 351: Boxcutters 2.0 The Time of Our Lives

We’re back with new faces, new voices, new innovations and more great TV chat.

We welcome Marian Blythe, Rachel Howe and Chris Rankine to the fold and immediately get down to the nitty gritty with a review of ABC1’s family drama, The Time Of Our Lives.

Marian gives us a bit of a rundown on her TV culture shock, experienced after an extended sojourn to Europe.

And there’s a couple of old regulars in there as well.

  1. Places you have strayed in Boxcutters 2.0…

Chris mentioned (starting at 12:32) David Frost interviewing that “very Famous Italian” Mother Teresa.

Mother Terasa was Albanian, not Italian.

So Brett, should I apply the rule of three to Boxcuters 2.0?

  2. OMG YES! You should definitely apply the rule of three.

It was very different in the studio after 8 years with Josh.

  3. Oh! I can’t believe that you talked about that “I Don’t Care” ad and didn’t mention the actual issue with it.

It’s a car ad using a song that contains the lyrics
“I crashed my car into the bridge. I watched, I let it burn.”

I’m not sure if they’re saying that’s what you should do with the car in the ad or if it’s what you should do with your current car…

    • Chris Rankine says:

      Hey Matt!
This is a very effective use of using music in an ad because, like you, people remember it!
Obviously, the creative team were smart enough to correctly edit the heart of this hit.
      It’s arrogant and I believe, effective….
      On yr bike…
      Chris

    • Marian Blythe says:

But Matt, we’d then be admitting that we knew the song well enough to know all the lyrics … umm … not that there’s anything wrong with that 😉

      Tee hee hee

  4. Thanks for that Chris.

  5. Chris Rankine says:

So. After reviewing my input on the first episode, I’m going to self regulate myself…
    1. I promise to watch more Television.
    2. I promise not to interrupt the girls with stupid comments.
    3. I promise not to be sexist.
    4. I promise to refrain from eating cheese on air.

    • Marian Blythe says:

      5. You promise not to refer to smart, attractive, funny, successful women as “girls”.

*Makes motion of scratching Chris’ eyes out – in a totally playful way ;)*

  6. arghhh… TOOL drives me nuts! but I couldn’t help but hate watch it. The comedy night is horrific and the extreme wealth is ludicrous! Good work BB2.0
