Boxcutters Episode 66

We are joined this week by Tom Elliot who talks to us about Channel 9, our Free Trade Agreement with New Zealand, and a whole bunch of fascinatingly interesting stuff about how television works. Also, we talk a little about the Federal Communications Commission in the US and how they’re ruining everything for everybody.

unfortunately way to late for this week and maybe not relevant for next week but still I have to vent about this one.

I used to LOVE the d-gen, dgenocide and the late show were part of my upbringing.
However this the panel christmas wrap-up FARCE has just REALLY pissed me off!

I have been over “the panel” for a while, I think it ran out of steam about 4 years ago and I stopped bothering to watch it about 3 years ago.

But still my mate and I thought we’d watch this xmas wrap up with an eye to hopefully seeing “a year in review” by some of the d-gen crew.

    my god were we wrong!!!

All I have to say is SHAME ON YOU channel 10 for disguising a bullshit add ridden standard episode of the panel as something of a special. They did nothing but plug aus-stereo’s crap hosts for the first 20 mins, then they plugged andrew simonds’ book (wtf does that have to do with xmas?) then they plugged ford, then they did an awful live ford ad disguised as a sketch then they plugged myer and THEN they did a live Myer add, THEN….we turned off and watched a fairly decent tele-sync of casino royale.

Something has to be said about this. I mean even the working dog crew must have felt dirty and needed a long shower after they filmed this sickening contractual obligation/screen time grabbing abortion of a show!

The best bit was tony martin’s “5 almost funny moments of the year”. Yes it was a plug for MMM but at least it had SOMETHING to do with a year in review/wrap up type thing.

So yeah, sorry but I just really got sad when I watched a divx of “the olden days” and “bargearse” tonight and something snapped!

  2. So, did you like it??

(Hard to be sure from your post)

It was pretty aweful. And I agree Tony Martin was the only good thing.

I remember Josh commenting in ’99 that he thought the only way to continue the show was to have some fresh new people doing the talking.

So that Media Watch idea would be like “FOX News Watch” on the FOX News Channel basically?

So an idea copied from a right wing American channel for a show they are apparently trying to go to the centre? That will work….

Just one comment on the show, with respect to the footy, we have already been getting a lottery on the coverage. Not sure what you get in Melbourne, but in Adelaide we still get the Adelaide games shown. Sometimes its broadcast by Foxtel, and then rebroadcast on Ten. Sometimes Ten actually do the broadcasting, so its hit and miss. Foxtel’s footy coverage was terrible anyway, so I can’t see how Ten and Seven having the rights oculd make it worse.
