Ep 240: The Greatest TV Characters of All Time

kbell.jpgYes, the rumours are true. Boxcutters has been around for five years. You’d think we’d have quit by now but no, we are very bad at learning lessons.

To celebrate our podcast longevity we give you a gift. In fact we give you the greatest gift. We reveal to you, in this very episode, the Greatest TV Characters of All Time. We go through the official and final, no correspondence will be entered into, top 10 with its pros and cons and put in our two cents’ worth.

To everybody who came to the Boxcutters vs Dr Who writers panel at AussieCon, you all get a special mention.

There’s a bunch of news, we read out some letters and mix it up with some pork.

blackcopwhitecopTo top off what has already been a really busy week full of too much information, we bring in Claire Hooper from Good News Week to talk about the election night coverage.

Remember the extreme game show / early reality series The Mole? Well, Brooke Marshall was the winner of series 2 of that show and she comes in to give us a bit of a 10 year retrospective on what reality was like back then.

There’s a whole bunch of news and some pork as well so get into it.

We might not have a government but we do have episode 238 of Boxcutters.

Ep 230: Rajendra Roy, The Doctor

hawkeye-pola.jpgRajendra Roy is the head film curator for MoMA in New York and we have a little discussion with him about what Television actually means.

John talks about The Doctor as one of the Greatest TV Characters of All Time.

Brett and John have an argument about politics that gets really boring but ends in a hilarious bit that makes it really worth listening all the way through for.

Ep 229: Daria, Nelly’s Magic Box

We really say the word “box” about 50 times in this episode. We can be so infantile sometimes. Those are the times we like the best.

We look at Daria as a contender for the Greatest TV Characters of All Time.

Nelly talks about her new PVR.

And there’s some other stuff.

Yes. We finally review How to Make it in America. “About bloody time,” you all shout in a wondrous chorus.

Also, John goes through why he chose Lynda Day for his choice to include in the list of Greatest TV Characters of All Time.

We had a lot of fun putting this one together. Probably more than you’ll have listening to it, but give it a go anyway.

Correction – 8 June, 2010

It was Serbia who won Eurovision 2007 with a horn-rimmed glasses and comfortable shoes wearing, rumoured lesbian, not Spain.

Also, the title of the Greg Fleet vehicle is Die on Your Feet, co-starring Alan Brough.

So here we go. This is in no way the final list. These are just the finalists we’ve all chosen from our own brains. We’re waiting on all of you to get us all of your lists.

Send them to us or leave them as comments in the blog and next Monday on the show we’ll announce the schedule for revealing the full list, complete with explanations.

Please try to limit your lists to 10 each. We know it’s really hard. We’ve all done it. The order will be fairly arbitrary but the most repeated characters will get extra weighting towards the top of the list.

Now, without any fanfare at all, here we go:

Nelly

  1. Omar Little (The Wire)
  2. Shirly Schmidt (Boston Legal)
  3. Tracy Jordan (30 Rock)
